Former Wisconsin CB Nick Nelson – who was injured in a pre-draft workout – was selected in the 4th round of the 2018 NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders.
The 110th overall selection was a second-team All-American (CBS) and first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2017, after setting a single-season school record with nation-leading 21 pass breakups. Nelson also logged 35 total tackles, including 26 solo tackles and 1.0 TFL. The transfer from Hawai’i also returned 24 punts for 206 yards (8.6 average) and 1 touchdown.
Nelson tore his meniscus while working out privately at the McClain Center (on the UW Campus) for the Detroit Lions. The cornerback has since had surgery and says he will be healthy in time for NFL training camp.
