Badgers close out regular season with 4-3 win over Northwestern

The Wisconsin softball team closed out their regular season winning five of their final six games including a 4-3 win over Northwestern on Sunday for Senior Day at the Goodman Softball Complex.

Haley Hekestein started in the circle for Wisconsin, where she racked up five strikeouts and limited the Wildcats to just two hits in five innings of action.

Although the Wildcats were able to strike first with a run in the top of the fourth, the Badgers brought the bats in the bottom of the fifth for a four-run inning. Stephanie Lombardo kicked things off with a single through the middle that was followed by a double from freshman Lauren Foster that tied the game. Jordan Little notched UW’s third hit in a row to score the go-ahead run. Kelly Welsh singled to join Little on base and both were sent home when Kelsey Jenkins blasted a double to deep left for a 4-1 lead.

Northwestern retaliated in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs, but Taylor Johnson shut them down with a game-winning double play to minimize the damage.

Wisconsin will host the Big Ten Tournament starting on Thursday at the Goodman Softball Complex.
