Badgers basketball adds two walk-ons

The Badgers men’s basketball team has added a pair of walk-ons for the upcoming season. Head coach Greg Gard announced the additions of Owen Hamilton and Carter Higginbottom.

Hamilton is a transfer from Northern Illinois. He appeared in 27 games as a true freshman last season. The 7’0" native of Prescott averaged 1.9 points and 1.3 rebounds for the Huskies. At Prescott High School, Hamilton led the Cardinals to a runner-up finish in Division 3. He averaged 25.1 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game as a senior. Hamilton will have to redshirt this upcoming season. He will have three years of eligibility remaining after that.

Higginbottom comes to Madison from St. Ignatius High School in Chicago. The 6’0" guard averaged 12.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.2 steals as a senior. Higginbottom’s father, Elzie, was an All-American runner at Wisconsin. He was a three-time Big Ten champion and placed fifth in the 440-yard dash at the 1963 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
