Tischke named Badgers hockey captain

The Badgers men’s hockey team is looking to senior Peter Tischke for leadership this season. The defenseman has been named the team captain for the 2018-19 season.

"He’s been an outstanding leader since the day we got here," head coach Tony Granato said in a statement. "He’s a rock-solid defenseman who is going to play a ton of minutes for us. He does everything and has been our most consistent player. He’s going to be a great captain."

Tischke played in 37 games last season. He notched two goals and 13 points. He has appeared in 99 games in his college career.

Granato also announced that senior forward Seamus Malone would be joining Tischke on the leadership group. He scored 10 times last season in 36 games.

"He’s one of those guys who always looks out for his teammates," Granato said. "He has great character and is a hard-working guy who is respected by everyone else in the locker room."

This is the first time since the 2008-09 season the Badgers will enter the year with only two players named captain or alternate captain.
