Former Badgers coach, Pettinger, passes away

Legendary Badgers men’s swimming and diving coach, Jack Pettinger has died at age 79.

Pettinger coached the Badgers from 1969 to 1993. He led Wisconsin to 15 top-five Big Ten finishes and racked up a dual-meet record of 233-92 over 24 seasons. 

Pettinger was the 1992 Big Ten Coach of the Year. He coached 11 individuals who went on to claim 14 total Big Ten championships. He also coached 30 swimmers and divers to All-American performances. 

A memorial service for Pettinger will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Cress Funeral Home in Madison.
