The No. 14 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team will make its 12th straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament and host the four-team Whitewater, Wisconsin Regional starting this Friday at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.

The Warhawks clinched the WIAC Tournament championship with an 11-1 win against UW-La Crosse Saturday night.

“I think it’s been consistency all year with pitching and hitting, up and down the lineup everyone has been preforming,” said sophomore infielder Nick Santoro. “It’s not just one player, but two or three each game, someone is stepping up to the plate.”

The second-seeded Warhawks (34-10 overall) will face No. 3 seed North Central (Ill.) in their opening game Friday. No. 1 seed Webster (Mo.) will take on fourth-seeded Bethany Lutheran (Minn.). Game times have yet to be determined.

“The ball we play doesn’t change I feel like we have been playing championship ball all year,” said sophomore pitcher Westin Muir. “As far as the tournament goes, last year we didn’t really finish where we wanted to, I think this year we will have that fire. We don’t want a quick elimination like last year.”

UW-Whitewater earned a Pool “C”, or at-large, bid for its 22nd appearance in the national tournament.
