Edgerton native Rich Bickle has had success racing cars at every level. Including NASCAR where we raced for 16 years. He released his book titled Barnyard to Brickyard – The Rich Bickle Story on Monday that illustrates his rock star lifestyle and climb from short track racing in Wisconsin to the bright lights of some of NASCAR’s biggest speedways.

Bickle has been around racing all of his life. He made his racing debut in 1977 at the Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, WI. His first appearance in Madison came in 1980 at the Madison International Speedway where he raced against his father Rich Sr. Rich Jr. won that race, his father came in second.

“Growing up at the race track has been my main thing my whole life, I’ve always raced something,” Bickle said with a smile on his face.

In 1989 Bickle made his NASCAR debut in the Winston Cup. In 1997 he won three NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events. By 2005 Bickle retired as an active NASCAR driver.

All in all, Bickle’s racing rise from Edgerton to eventually the NASCAR stage was the inspiration for the title of his book, Barnyard to Brickyard. Bickle’s book chronicles his time at the highest level and his perspective on what can happen behind the scenes in NASCAR.

“I wanted to get it out there and let people know the political side of racing,” said Bickle. “Not the short track fun type of racing, but how NASCAR sometimes manipulates things.”

Bickle worked with author John Close for the completion of the book. Close, a Manitowwoc, WI native, has been involved in racing as a writer, publicist, team member, and author for over 40 years. He spotted for Bickle more than 150 times in NASCAR and short-track racing from 1995-2005.

Barnyard to Brickyard – The Rich Bickle Story is available in paperback, E-Book, and Audio Book.
