The Badger volleyball team opens its season at home on Thursday against No. 11 Marquette, and then play Friday against No. 17 Baylor. But as the No. 4 team in the nation, who has already swept two ACC teams to begin the season, this volleyball squad has confidence. The Badgers lost just two players from last years’ team and returns five All-Americans.
“Our team definitely has a lot of chemistry,” said junior setter Sydney Hilley, after Wednesday’s practice. “Just because we know each other so well. But, I also think we have a lot of experience, which is really helpful when we’re integrating the new players and we’re kind of taking ownership of our own team and holding them accountable, too. So it’s really fun to play with people who are so experienced and we have a lot of fun with because we just play with them so often.”
“I definitely think we have a chance of winning a national championship this year,” said junior middle blocker Dana Rettke. “This team is ready. I think our play is showing it and I think definitely our mentality and our confidence are showing it right now. So that’s definitely our main goal is, to win a national championship… but also a Big Ten championship. That’s something I don’t think we’ve done in 5 years so that would be really awesome to do too.”
The Wisconsin volleyball team is 34-9-2 all-time in their season home openers. They’ve won the last 3 home openers in a row, which includes last year’s win over No. 2 Texas.
